Present Moment Messy Question of the Day: Boundaries + News Cycles of Stress

Present moment messy question of the day episode

Time for a quick current topic to cultivate some curiosity around our culture of stress.

Here’s the gist…

Our news cycles rarely share much objective news these days. Journalists who simply report what happens and allow you to use your own intelligence and judgement to form an opinion are very difficult to find. Most have been replaced by "thought leaders" and "influencers" .

Fact is as humans we are all wired with some kind of agenda. Some we acknowledge but many we don’t.  We call these unconscious biases. Because they're unconscious people can go their whole lives without ever being aware of them. If our beliefs are never challenged then there is no reason for any of those biases to be questioned.

The result of the 24/7 news cycle is that we can be constantly bombarded by negative, violent and abusive content. Even if that content isn’t directed at us. The unintended consequences of consuming too much of that content can result in the equivalent of an assault on our nervous system that could range from subtle, chronic worry to outright trauma. Triggering the same physiological response in the body as an outright attack on your person.

When you watch the news or social media, notice how you feel, what sensations come up in your body. what thoughts come up in your mind. Here's the messy question: Whose thoughts are they? What's one boundary you can set that will allow you time, space and grace to advocate for your own beliefs?
